They used scraps or cuts from old kimonos to recreate loose-fitting silk blouses to suit the Hawaiian climate as well as pay tribute to the traditions and culture of their roots with distinctive motifs. such as Mount Fuji, Koi carp or characters in the folk stories of Phu Tang. Gradually over time, the shirt was also influenced by many trends and more diverse motifs were born.
